Wolverhampton Wanderers Fantasy Premier League Preview 2020/21

Nuno Espírito Santo has done wonders for Wolves. I remember watching them in Australia a number of years ago and meeting most of the players through winning a competition. They dropped down to League one a few seasons ago but since Nuno has come in he has changed the way wolves do things, they came into the premier league in 2018/19 and finished in the Europa league spots. In their first season in the Europa league they finished in the quarter finals. Unfortunately they didn’t make it to European football for this season. Wolves had one of the best partnerships on route to goal since Suarez and Sturridge, this one was Jimenez and Traore. Wolves will do the same as last season be around the mark for European Football again.

Jimenez was wolves top scorer in fantasy last season with 194 points, while Patricio finished with 153 points as the second top scorer for wolves and 4th highest score in goalkeepers. Wolves had 9 players finish with over 100 points, while 2 other players Boly and Neves finished on 97 points. Should expect the same this season.

Wolverhampton’s first 5 games are:

Sheffield (A)

Manchester City (H)

West Ham (A)

Fulham (H)

Leeds (A)

According to the FPL rating of Hardness, Wolves first two games are rated 4, which I find very weird because they did the league double over Manchester City and they lost 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Sheffield, but this season I expect them to open their account with a win against Sheffield and most probably get about 12 points out of 15 to start their season. One day they’ll win the league.

Goalkeeper:

Rui Patricio (5.5): Finished as the fourth highest goalkeeper scorer in the fantasy premier with 153 points. He played every single minute in the premier league and in playing all 38 games he produced 90 saves while keeping 13 cleansheets. When he first came into the premier league he was 4.5m and this season he is 5.5 which is still value I reckon will at some point be my keeper this season. Currently only in 6.6% of teams and by the end of the season it will be over 10% I reckon.

Defenders:

Ruben Vinagre (4.5): Vinagre will be the big beneficiary with Jonny being out which is very unfortunate but helps with finding cheap option that will always start so you can fit in the more expensive players. He is currently in 18.4% of teams and only played 644 minutes last season. He only scored 32 points and was involved in 3 of the 13 cleansheets wolves kept last season. Another defender of wolves who hasn’t opened their account in either the goals or assists department. He is currently in my player pool and might find his way into my final team.

Conor Coady (5.0): Second highest scoring defender for Wolves last season only behind Jonny. Unfortunately Jonny is out for a long period of time due to a knee injury. But I reckon Coady will step up and improve on his last season score of 118. He played every minute last season and was involved in all 13 clean sheets. He hasn’t scored a premier league goal or provided an assist yet. Let’s hope he gets off the mark this season. Currently at 7.1% ownership.

Midfielders:

Ruben Neves (5.5): When this guy has the ball at the top of the box you cna just sense the crowd will scream “shooooooootttttt”. When he hits them, they stay hit. He has scored some wonderful goals in the premier league either from free kicks or just some bangers from 20+ yards. But back to FPL he only scored 97 points only 7 down on his previous season in 3053 minutes which was 47 minutes more than the previous season. In the 97 points he scored only 2 goals and provided 2 assists down on his previous season tally of 4 goals and 3 assists. I’m hoping he improves his goal contributions to at least 10-12 which would lift his points to close to 120 points which at 5.5 is a value pick. He is only in 2.5% of teams.

Adam Traore (6.5): He created an amazing partnership with Raul Jimenez. He improved his minutes and points massively. He finished third in wolves FPL points rankings with 130 points playing 2599 minutes scoring 4 goals and providing 9 assists. He most probably will continue to do the same this season with the possibility of increasing his goal output. I won’t be considering him in my initial team but will have him on my watch list.

Joao Moutinho (5.5): Moutinho is a player who flies under the radar all the time in regards to fantasy. He’s a natural Central midfielder who played 3105 minutes last season scoring 113 points for his coaches consisting of only 1 goal and 7 assists. I will have him on my watch list this season and hopefully he can score a couple more goals this season.

Diogo Jota (6.5): In his first season was a midfielder but played as a front two alongside Jimenez, so last season he became a forward but then played majority of his games on the wing which now has made him a midfielder again. Playing as a winger he scored 7 goals and 3 assists for a score of 105 points. A little down on his previous season in 2018/19 where he scored 139 points with 9 goals and 8 assists. Definitely consider him as a possibility but it is definitely between him and Traore for your team if you have Jimenez in your team. Currently is in only 3.2% of teams.

Forwards:

Raul Jimenez (8.5): Wolves highest scorer last season as mentioned before with 194 points from 3241 minutes. He scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists. This season he is priced at 8.5 which is quite high but if he can produce the exactly the same as last season he is very worth considering in your team, he improved on his first season in the premier league by 13 points and 4 goals. Currently in 20% of teams.
