Manchester United Fantasy Premier League Preview 2020/21

 Ah... Here we are the most dreaded Preview I have to write, there’s not much good I like saying about this team, but I guess I’ll give it my best shot. There is a couple of things that stick quite well with me about Manchester United is that they went undefeated for a period of time but started in 5th and guess where they finished once they stopped their streak? Yes you probably guessed right it was 5th. But back to how they performed last season, I expected them to finish about 6th or 7th with not a lot happening for them in the summer window and Ole not proven yet that he was a good coach, but in saying that they finally got their man they one they had been dreaming of for a very long time, Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. He came in the winter transfer window and boy, did he make his mark, yes he may of scored a few penalties but he definitely made a huge difference for United going forward, if I’m being honest he single-handedly brought them into the champions league for this season. 



Manchester United had 8 players plus Dean Henderson score of 100 points last season in FPL, just a quick note both greenwood and Fernandes scored 100 points playing in only 1303 minutes for greenwood and 1187 for Fernandes, that is quite remarkable. Anthony Martial was United’s top scorer with a nice clean 200 points, followed by Rashford with 177, then Dean Henderson for SHEFFIELD scored 160 points, the others that got over 100 were: Mason Greenwood 103, Victor Lindelof 116, Bruno Fernandes 117, Harry Maguire 123, Aaron Wan Bissaka 127 and David De Gea 143 points. 


Manchester United’s opening 5 games are:


Crystal Palace (H)

Brighton (A)

Tottenham (H)

Newcastle (A)

Chelsea (H)


Man United do have two difficult fixtures in Tottenham and Chelsea, but both those games are Old Trafford. Also do note that Man Utd don’t play in the first game week against Burnley due to European Competition commitments back in August due to COVID-19. They do have 3 winnable games and should do with some ease. 


Goalkeeper:


David De Gea (5.5): I reckon he will be the number one keeper to start the season but a few howlers and we might see Henderson take over unless they send Henderson out on loan. He scored 143 points from every minute last season, he kept 13 clean sheets and produced 95 saves, he has been one of the top keepers in the world for a very long time and when he’s on he is on. 


Dean Henderson (5.5): Was absolutely outstanding last season for Sheffield and scored 160 points, he kept 13 clean sheets and produced 97 saves. Will he start? I don’t think so, he has said if he doesn’t get to start or play he will go searching for other options. Not a good attitude and should accept it especially playing for a prestigious club.





Defenders: 


Aaron Wan Bissaka (5.5): He was amazing for Crystal Palace a couple of seasons back which then got him his move to Manchester United. He improved his score by 7 points to 127 from 3070 he provided 4 assists and was involved in 12 clean sheets. He will produce about the same as last season, if not more points by about 10-15, hopefully we see him score his very first premier league goal of his career this season too. 


Luke Shaw (5.0): When this guy was at Southampton, he would be one of the regulars to feature in my team throughout the season, but since moving to Manchester United in July 2014 he hasn’t really found his feet at Manchester United, he played 1730 minutes and scored only 67 points, he didn’t produce any goals or assists, he was involved in 8 clean sheets. I wouldn’t bother choosing him and the LB position in United is very, very unknown position and troublesome, United have been looking at Alex Telles.



Midfielders:


Dan James (6.5): His first season in the premier league last season and in his first appearance against Chelsea at old Trafford he scored his first goal and the crowd went wild, he will never forget that moment. He scored 95 points from 2281 minutes scoring 3 goals and 6 assists. He could possibly find himself as a main stayer on the wing this season on the right and Rashford on the left, unless Ole chooses Greenwood over James.   Only selected by 0.4% of the competition. 


Bruno Fernandes (10.5): He came in early January, and wow what an impact he had. He scored 117 points from 1187 points. That is unheard of, he produced amazing numbers and was the key guy behind Manchester United’s successful quest of making the champions league. He will play above 2750 minutes and will be very close to 200 points and is 1.0m cheaper than De Bruyne, you’d be mad to not have KDB, but Bruno is very worthy of being in your team. When he came into the premier league he score 8 goals and provided 8 assists. That’s 16 contributions in about half a season.


Marcus Rashford (9.5): This season he is a midfielder which will help his stocks rise this season and could see him be the highest scoring Manchester United player this season. Last season he finished behind Martial with 177 points scoring 17 goals and providing 8 assists. This season will see him operate from the left hand side again. He will produce roughly the same this season. Currently in 6% of teams. 


Mason Greenwood (7.5): Another player who was a main stayer in the team after January and did do well when both Rashford and Martial were unavailable due to injuries, he played 1300 minutes for a return of 103 points scoring 10 goals and producing 1 assist. He might be behind a few this season but is very young, I wouldn’t be considering him this season. He is owned by 10% of the competition but isn’t a guaranteed starter, I would use the cash on other players.  


Donny Van De Beek (7.0): This transfer was a bit of a surprise in my opinion, United now have a lot of choices for their midfield and we might see this guy be used as a sub. I won’t be going near him whatsoever. For Ajax last season in the Eredivisie he played 23 games scoring 8 goals and providing 6 assists. It might be a difficult transition for Donny, but being young he’s in the crop where they take the game on. Just watch him this season and then next season he could be “ripe for the picking”. Currently in 3% of teams. 


Paul Pogba (8.0): Unfortunately last season his attitude wasn’t right and was injured for a period of time, he only played 1200 minutes scoring 51 points. He scored 1 goal and provided 4 assists. He hopefully can find his feet this year and challenge for a position alongside Fernandes or Matic, it’s will be difficult to find a spot for every midfielder in that team. He currently is in only 1.8% of teams but I don’t think you can trust him to produce what he has in the past especially with the unknown midfield rotation from Ole.  


Forwards:


Anthony Martial (9.0): Last season he was a midfielder and scored 200 points being the top scorer in FPL for Man Utd, he scored 17 goals and contributed 9 assists. He improved immensely last season compared to the season before. He also played over 2500 minutes for the first time since his first season in the premier league. I reckon this season he will come close to the top scoring forward in the league, may not win the golden boot but will come close. Currently in 15.4% of teams.

Gameweek 6 Review

The less said and mentioned about Gameweek 6 the better. My team was exactly like Aston Villa on the weekend, thought we were cruising nicely and continually improving, but nope, came crashing back down to earth. Gameweek 9

Two weeks without anything from me and my rank has dropped 800,000 spots, don’t even ask why and what’s happened, I really don’t know. It’s been a difficult season so far for everyone. Liverpool sitting pretty at the moment and possibly are on track to win the league but Tottenham and Leicester are on track too. In my opinion INTERNATIONAL BREAK should never of happened. Too many players now have coronavirus, getting injured and are playing too many games. FIFA need to think of player welfare before trying to make some money. Fans will always have football. FIFA just needed to take into account that players never really had an off-season, players from big clubs are playing nearly every 3-4 days. Jurgen Klopp made a valid point after the draw with Man City, clubs are getting too many injuries and not enough turnaround time between games due to all these condensed games. With the champions league on at the moment, Liverpool are playing 3 games a week, but so are 6 other teams in the prem

Gameweek 5 review

If I was David Coote I wouldn’t be wanting to step foot on the red side of Merseyside for a long time. Seriously how can a referee forget the rules!!! The Merseyside derby had everything 4 goals, a red card, VAR drama and we still couldn’t get a winner, but honestly what was going on in the VAR room? Pickford that honestly was the most disgraceful tackle I’ve ever seen. I honestly believe Liverpool were robbed of winning that derby, at least Everton still can’t beat us, it’s been a long time for them. Aston Villa have been the surprise packet this season, they honestly should of Been playing championship football this season but they aren’t and are sitting nicely second at the moment with a game in hand over Everton.
