Crystal Palace Fantasy Premier League Preview

I will never forget how much hurt this team has put me through and I have endured before finally Liverpool won the league last season, Palace will always be remembered as the team that came back and scored 3 goals against Liverpool in the last 10 mins of the game back in 2013/14 which ultimately was one of the games that ended Liverpool winning the league. But enough of that, Palace have always been around the mark of 45 points when finishing a season which puts them around 11-15th. They finished off the restart with only 1 win and a draw scoring 5 goals and conceding 18 in 9 games.

Even in FPL they are frustrating and even this season I would try and steer clear of any palace players. I don’t see them improving that much this season and especially if Zaha moves on they might be fighting a relegation battle. They did sign Eberechi Eze from QPR. He’s a 22 year old advanced play maker and should do very well. Last season Vincente Guaita was Palace’s top scorer with 137 points, closely followed by Jordan Ayew with 132 then Wilfred Zaha scored 120 with Van Aanholt rounding out with 109 points.

Crystal Palace opening 5 games are:

Southampton (H)

Manchester United (A)

Everton (H)

Chelsea (A)

Brighton (H)

Just like Brighton in their first five games they face two of the top four and in my opinion have 3 games that could go either way, I would avoid Palace defenders and goalkeepers, possibly keep an eye on Ayew and Eze, plus Zaha. Keep in mind Palace only scored 31 goals in 38 games while conceding 50 goals. They kept 10 cleansheets. Who if any Palace players do we consider??

Goalkeeper:

Vincente Guaita (5.0): Palace’s tough run to start the season I wouldn’t be starting with Guaita even though he scored 137 points last season with recording 111 saves. Palace only kept 10 clean sheets last season. He is very durable and only missed three games last season. There are a lot of other keepers I would consider.

Defenders:

Patrick Van Aanholt (5.5): Currently is injured with a hamstring but always some how ends up in my team at some point during the season. Scored 109 points last season from 29 games scoring 3 goals and contributed 2 assists. Has competition for LB this season in Mitchell. Possibly might not reach the heights he did last season or the season before if Mitchell plays well at LB.

Midfielders:

Wilfred Zaha (7.0): Will he be at Palace this season? Possibly, if he moves on would you still consider him, maybe. If he’s staying at Palace then he should be in contention for your team. Last season he was down on points by at least 20 points from the season before. Last season he only scored 4 goals and contributed only 6 assists. The season before he score 10 goals and contributed 11 assists. This season depending on which team he is at I believe we should see him hit the heights he did in 2018/19 season.

Luka Milivojevic (6.0): Palace’s set piece taker, can hit a wicked free kick and is Palace’s penalty taker too. Last season he was down on numbers from the previous season. Received 12 yellow cards last season, only score 81 points last season while the season before he scored 166 points and played every minute in 2018/19. Unfortunately last season for a little period he fell out of favour and missed a few games. If he could play all minutes again this season he could reach 125+ points and be a viable option at 6.0m, but there are other midfielders at 6.0 that would end up in your team.

Eberechie Eze (6.0): Arrived about a week a go at Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers. He started every game for QPR last season. He scored 14 goals and contributed 8 assists. He is priced at 6.0 which could be a steal depending on what position he plays, last season he played on the wings and in behind the striker. Palace played a friendly versus Charlton on the weekend and Eze played behind the striker and could of scored his first goal for Palace.

Forwards:

Jordan Ayew (6.0): Ayew was a huge improver from the season 2018/19 to 2019/20 from 46 points to 132 points. He scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists. He was involved in 37 of the 38 games and will definitely be the number 1 striker for Palace this season, he will have competition from Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke. Definitely one to keep on your watch list or even have in your team as he can grab a couple of goals in the first few game weeks.

Definitely consider having Jordan Ayew and Wilfred Zaha in your player pool for your team. I reckon when Eze is unleashed in FPL he will have a 10% ownership but I reckon there are better 6.0m midfielders to choose from. Just keep an eye on him to see how he starts the season. I would steer clear of any of Palace’s defenders or Vincente Guaita as Palace do find themselves with a tough start to their Premier League campaign.

Prediction: 10th-14th
